At Kapitol, our TogetHER group provides a safe and supportive space for women in the construction industry to share their experiences. Following last year’s workshop, the feedback was to dedicate more time to advancing women’s experiences in the industry. This year’s retreat focused on open discussions, where women from Kapitol and the broader industry shared their stories and pinpointed areas for growth. Recognising that progress requires collective action, we also invited men to join the conversation, underscoring that these challenges are everyone’s responsibility.
We held workshops addressing challenges faced by women in the construction industry, turning conversation into action. Topics ranged from inspiring women to join the industry to mental health and respectful behaviour. The goal was to move the needle by collaboratively brainstorming solutions.
Amanda Clements, our HSEQ & ESG Manager, moderated a panel featuring industry experts:
The panel discussions covered strategies for attracting more women to the industry, dealing with unconscious bias, and preparing for future industry shifts. We also explored misconceptions about the industry and provided advice on handling untoward comments or discriminatory behaviour.
This retreat marked a significant step towards creating a more inclusive and progressive industry, with each of us playing a part in driving positive change.
